Expansion in Terminal 1 Security Checkpoints over several floors
In order to increase the capacity for passengers departing from Terminal 1, Module C, new security checkpoints were installed on Level 05. As a consequence, new offices and staff rooms were created. However, to make room for the new requirements, existing office and storage space needed to be dismantled, without the need however of making alterations to load-bearing structures and reinforced elements. The escape routes and emergency exits remained largely unchanged. Considerable changes, however, were made to the escape route via the stairway in the passenger area on Level 04. The original fire alarm and sprinkler systems were taken down and new equipment was installed in the ceiling cavities throughout to meet the requirements of the new floor plan. A particular challenge was the construction and installation of a highly technical automated smoke extractor system with extra fresh air supply. This is a requirement in the fire safety concept and will also be applied in the future to all building conversions and refurbishments in the passenger area.
