Overview of our operations
New build of a 3-storey hybrid building containing offices, labs and technical center, computer-controlled sun-shading, auditorium, foyer, flexible office design, execution using lean construction
The BMW Group's light engineering center is located at the heart of the city of Landshut. This building fulfils entirely the demands of future-oriented architecture. It was thus created as a symbol of both light engineering and cooperation between the departments and technology. While the offices are located in the upper floors, the ground floor houses the labs and behind that the technical center. From the outset, the design process was shaped by three stipulations: Firstly, the high efficiency of the building's functionality. Secondly, the urban visual impact and thirdly, the role of communication, both outward and inward, forming a meeting place for the exchange of information between members of staff. In order to successfully bring about the interplay between these three requirements, classic architectural tools were combined with state-of-the-art components: The building is connected by two internal courtyards. These classic elements provide more natural light and air circulation and form, together with the main stairway, the backbone of the building. The glass easterly facade provides the desired outward communication: it is a symbolic divide through which one can observe the various activities going on inside. The layout design provides an innovative, neutral and open-plan working environment, which at the same time fulfils today's philosophy of the "Flexible Office". By using materials developed by the BMW Group – interior design elements and the exterior computer-controlled sun shading – the shell of the building (architecture) and the content (the ideas created in the interior) are blended together in line with communication of the modern age.
