Total refurbishment and extension of a secondary school with sports hall. Five construction phases while maintaining normal school classes.

- Effective climate protection with energy-efficient refurbishment.The school was built at the beginning of the 1970s and after 50 years, one thing was clear: an in-depth refurbishment of the building was required to ensure energy efficiency in the future. First, the facade received thermal insulation to minimize cold bridges. Windows and doors were replaced, and the roof area was insulated and sealed. Electric sun shading and blackout systems were installed which can be easily and quickly operated during class.
"As an architectural and engineering firm, we were not only responsible for the refurbishment. Over the years, a firm relationship developed between the school and those working on the construction. Together we rejoiced over each of the successes, however small, and supported each other, even congratulating each other on birthdays.
The satisfaction of the students and teachers at the end of each construction phase often showed us very emotionally that we had achieved our goal - we have created a place where everyone feels comfortable. During the project phase, we faced the challenges as they arose. This also included additional classroom requirements due changes in the school curriculum for the final exams.
The result speaks for itself - a modern and well-functioning secondary school that we built with both passion and dedication."

- Construction phase 1Sustainable and ecological building.With heat generation using fuels from renewable raw materials, we were able to fulfil our fundamental concept of green building. All the rooms are efficiently supplied thanks to the renewal of the piping network and other technical installations. These measures contribute significantly to reducing the energy requirement level by more than 30 %.
- Construction phase 1Fresh yellow hue for activity and movement.Sport is an important element to offset learning and sitting still. school sports can be really fun and, with fresh ideas, the pupils not only learn coordination but also fairness and team spirit which can already be felt in the entrance area. The locker rooms and sanitary facilities have been freshly renovated and have been expanded to include an area for physically challenged students.
- Construction phase 1Fit for the future.The flat roof was replaced by a pitched roof and the building was then renovated to make it more energy-efficient with new windows and exterior insulation. In the two sports halls, a sports elastic floor and an impact wall keep the risk of injuries as low as possible. The high proportion of local wood is an additional contribution to the already pleasant indoor climate. Due to the excellent acoustics, concerts and events are regularly held in the hall.
- Construction stage 2The color red provides a feeling of warmth and cheerfulness.The color concept throughout provides structure and orientation. Orange is full of energy and makes an important contribution to a stimulating learning atmosphere. This positive color mood is emphasized by other accents of color, which were deliberately kept in neutral gray.
- Construction phase 3Learning for the digital world.The computer room is where the pupils learn all about digital technologies. An energy-optimized ventilation system reliably regulates not only high air quality but also the right level of room humidity. Given the large number of electrical devices, this is also an important factor in maintaining a stable level of attention.
- Construction phase 3Popular meeting place for everyone.A school without a snack and tuck shop? Unthinkable for everyone involved in the construction. And so, in addition to the school office and photo lab, the ground-floor snack and tuck shop was also given a facelift. The minimalist design and muted colors of the kitchen allow the healthy snacks to really stand out.
- Construction phase 4Physics room.Physics teaches the laws of nature and in order to create a link to the lessons, the seating design uses wood to create a deliberate natural feel. The air quality in all subject rooms is excellent due to the decentralized ventilation and the flexible sun protection systems.
- Construction stage 4The school gets a new observatory.Reach for the sky. In the course of the renovation work relating to the class restructuring, the observatory was moved from the roof of the music pavilion and is now located one floor higher on the building extension.
- Construction phase 5Biology and chemistry classrooms.The new subject rooms for Nature & Technology, Biology and Chemistry are bright and flooded with light. Since all the pupils use these rooms, high-quality and hard-wearing furnishings were of particular importance.
- Construction phase 5Neat and well organized.This is how the preparation rooms for all science subjects look. In addition to the pedagogical concept, aspects of safety and health protection were decisive here.
